Wizard Costume

I created these costume pieces to wear to presentations for the Dungeon Party video game project I worked on.

This cloak and hat is based off the design of the wizard and main antagonist of Dungeon Party. I was responsible for designing, 3D modelling and writing the backstory for the character. After creating the 3D model for the wizard to be used in the game, I decided to try making the outfit out of physical materials, too.

This project presented me with opportunities to try two new forms of crafting: 3D printing and felting. I learned wet felting techniques from my mother to shape the body of the hat. Once I had the body, I modelled the decorative buckle in Autodesk Maya, 3D printed it, and painted it to look like metal with a gem set into it. The 3D print includes a sneaky clip on the back to hook onto the band of the hat.

The cloak consists of two layers of material. The outer layer is a thick, grey material that gives the cloak some body. The inner layer is a soft, light and vibrant material that adds some flare to the look. I used a wire of beads to fasten the front of the cloak. Luckily, the wire is strong enough to do that and support the journal the wizard wears like a pendant.
